The College of Arts (a grant-in-aid institution), is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of Banaskantha and was started in 1964 with only 100 students, when there was not a single degree college in this economically and educationally backward district. The college was renamed in 1984 as G.D. Modi College of Arts (GDMCA). There has been a consistent rise in the student strength every year. Presently, the total number of students in the college is 2350.
The college offers four core compulsory subjects (English, Gujarati, Economics, and Sanskrit) and several other subjects for the B.A. Degree (Hindi, History, Philosophy & Political Science) and also offers two core compulsory subjects and one inter disciplinary subject at the M.A. Degree (English and Gujarati) level.
